Atelier Ten are Environmental Design Consultants with offices worldwide. Thompsons were tasked with creating an office area and break out area including a lounge and kitchen for Atelier Ten.
This was a different project for Thompsons away from the retail and hospitality sectors and with no involvement with any interior designers, it was very much a collaboration between Thompsons and Atelier Ten bringing ideas to life.
After working together on the plan of where the meeting room, kitchen and break out areas needed to go the technicalities of the property being a Grade II listed building came into force. Making the meeting room walls were a challenge as Thompsons couldn’t fix anything to the existing structure therefore they had to be creative and fix the walls through the false flooring and use clamps to attach the walls on the ceiling beams.
During the fit-out the other floors in the building were occupied by businesses so noise had to be kept to a minimum and Thompsons were unable to use the lift. Therefore the steel glazed Crittall frames were made in sections in order for them to be carried up the stairs. These were designed and manufactured to fit together with hidden fixings, to produce a seamless frame, and maintain a high level of finish, in-keeping with the industrial character of the building.
All electrical work was carried out by Thompsons including power and data points.
This was a great project to work on and a real collaboration between Thompsons and Atelier Ten. There were many ‘wow’ moments once this project was completed including the light fitting sitting above the meeting table which is actually a living plant, designed by the Atelier Ten team.
