Project

Rosa’s Thai Café

As the sole UK contractor for Rosa’s Thai Café – the home of authentic modern Thai food – we have delivered fit-out and refurbishment projects across London, Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester. With a strong understanding of the brand and Rosa’s estate, we ensure the best value for our client on each project by identifying value engineering opportunities.

Overview

Rosa’s Thai Café opened its first restaurant in Spitalfields in 2008 to critical acclaim and has since opened in Reading, Kent, Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester and multiple locations across London. The award-winning brand serves customers with vibrant Thai dishes using seasonal British ingredients.

Thompsons started working with Rosa’s in 2018 on the fit-out of its Liverpool restaurant and has since operated as its sole UK contractor, delivering projects in Finsbury Park, Waterloo, Queensway, Clapham, Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester. Our work with Rosa’s ranges from minor refurbishments of their existing restaurants to complete fit-outs of landlord developments.

Having worked with Rosa’s on over a dozen projects, we understand the design concept and are able to ensure the best value for our client by identifying value engineering opportunities. Working closely with Rosa’s appointed designer, Gundry & Ducker, to understand the design for each restaurant, we identify opportunities to save money, ensuring the client’s vision can be delivered within budget, without compromising the quality or the look and feel of the finished product.

Our Work

In 2020, we delivered three projects for Rosa’s Thai Café, all in busy London locations. The most challenging was the Queensway restaurant in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Due to start in March 2020, the project was delayed by the first national lockdown enforced in the UK to control the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.

With the client keen to proceed as soon as possible, we were ready to start on site on 13 July 2020 once restrictions were lifted and delivered the fit-out of the 196m2 restaurant in six weeks. With our COVID-19 Return to Work Policy in place, we ensured the site was safe for all operatives and the public throughout the project, with temperature checks on arrival, hand sanitiser available and social distancing maintained at all times.

Our work involved the installation of a new eye-catching shopfront. Protruding from the traditional white buildings in the City of Westminster, the black-framed curved glass frontage stands out from its surroundings. Covering two floors, the fit-out also involved the installation of a new staircase, toilet setup, gas incoming mains and drainage.

Queensway was handed over at the end of August 2020, and we have since delivered projects in Waterloo and Finsbury Park. In 2021 we will be delivering a project in Greenwich which will involve the strip out of an existing Chinese restaurant over eight weeks and a seven-week fit-out of a new development in Birmingham.
