Project Overview
As a company already invested in renewable energy, Bildabin approached Thompsons Solar to design a system that would further increase their self-sufficiency in terms of power generation. The company had an existing solar array with 3 x Tesla Powerwalls, however wanted to maximise their solar and increase storage capacity.
Installation
A system was designed to complement the existing generation whilst working to grid constraints. An additional 54 panels were installed providing an extra 22kW solar generation capacity on site.
The array was installed using a 15kW inverter and suitable roof mounting system.
In addition to solar, 40.5kWh of storage was added to the existing giving a total of 81kWh storage. This will allow the company to store more of the energy generated and further reduce grid-sourced power.
Technical Information
Electrical consumption Prior to Solar installation: 120,000kW hrs PA
Installed Solar Capacity: 22kW
Projected yield from installed solar: 16,416.58 kW hr PA
Installed storage Capacity: 40.5kW
Net Rate of return on investment: 25%
System Performance warranties (manufacturer) 25yr – 80% original performance
Environmental Benefits
Annual CO2 saving: 80tons
Equivalent trees planted: 788
Completion Commissioning, Performance
The system was commissioned in November 2023 and in the first year exceeded the predicted generation by over 1,800kWh. Remote monitoring enables the system to be monitored to ensure it is performing correctly over the lifetime of the installation.
The system is predicted to payback within less than 6 years which equates to just over 25% ROI. In addition to the financial aspect, the business is now closer to their net zero targets.
Customer feedback
‘Thompsons Solar designed a system that would work with our existing solar panels and batteries. The system they installed allows us to monitor both our existing and new system as one and enables us to be even more self-sustainable from the grid. They handled everything, including the grid connection application. The team were really helpful throughout and made the process easy.’
