With Thompsons appointed as Principal Contractor, this was a complete design and build delivery scheme to enable turnkey solution, involving the redevelopment of the unoccupied Sheffield United Football Club Hotel at the stadium.

Key challenges:
An ambitious project from the offset for another high-profile client, the team faced the pressure of working to an immovable deadline which coincided with the beginning of the 2024/25 football season in August, with guest bookings already made.
Additionally, six weeks prior to handover, the DoubleTree by Hilton staff took occupation of the building to begin preparations for its grand opening.
A high footfall of people working across the building, all carrying out different tasks, created numerous logistical challenges, meaning it was imperative for Thompsons to maintain effective communication and cooperation with the different parties involved, as well as ensuring that health and safety standards were always met.
Outcome:
Highly experienced in working to tight timescales and operating within high pressure environments, Thompsons’ skilled team worked together to get the job done on time, within budget and to the highest standards, creating an exceptional space for work, rest and play.
Team members from across Thompsons’ departments played key roles in the smooth delivery of this comprehensive project, including operations, manufacturing, electrical and health and safety.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield City has 155 bedrooms, an event space which can hold up to 250 guests, a fitness centre and a stunning dō deli bar and restaurant. The hotel opened in August and has since welcomed hundreds of guests and local people to enjoy its modern and luxurious amenities.
Furthermore, around 100 jobs have been created as a result of the redevelopment, providing a boost to the local economy.
