Project Overview
Thompsons Solar was delighted to be given the opportunity to install a solar PV array at Centrix @ Keys, just one of a portfolio of properties owned by Northern Trust. The company are looking to decarbonise the office complex, including the replacement of air conditioning units with new efficient HVAC units. This was in addition to the installation of solar PV to provide cleaner, greener energy for the site and its tenants. The proposed design was refined to maximise production given restrictive connection requirements and export limitation imposed by the network provider.
Installation
The system spans both roof areas of the property, consisting of 296 x 500W solar panels. The array was installed using specialist on-roof standing seam mounting equipment suitable for the King Zip structure. Access to the roof was by scaffold towers to each building with perimeter edge protection. During installation, a man safe system was installed to allow for ease of access should any future maintenance works be required. Panels were installed around this to ensure safe working space is available. The installation was completed using Solaredge inverters which monitor each panel to ensure optimal generation along with additional safety functions.
Commissioning
The system is now fully commissioned, tested and registered with the DNO. In registering the system, the client now has the option to apply for export tariffs for any surplus power generated. The system is anticipated to avoid 30 tons of CO2 per year, a benefit shared by the owner and tenants.
