Thompsons was approached to design a solar PV system for Pilling Village Hall. The solar installation is following a recent restoration project where measures were taken to reduce the hall’s carbon footprint and cut energy bills. The initial renovation included installation of a heat pump which the solar will assist in powering.
Installation
The system designed utilised the south facing roof ensuring best use for optimal generation potential. Consisting of 48 x 440W solar panels connected to a Solis hybrid inverter, the array was installed using specialist clamps suitable for the roof membrane.

The installation was completed using a hybrid inverter to allow for future installation of battery storage should it be required.
Grid consent was sought and approved to connect the system under G99 regulations.
Suitable scaffolding and edge protection was installed to enable our teams to complete the installation safely and efficiently.

Completion Commissioning, Performance
Now fully commissioned and tested, the installation has been registered with the grid and MCS. In registering the system, the client now has the option to apply for export tariffs for any surplus power generated. Remote monitoring also enables the system to be monitored to ensure it is performing correctly over the lifetime of the installation.
The system is predicted to payback within less than 7 years which equates to just over 20% ROI. In addition to the financial aspect, the community hall now benefits from cleaner, greener power generated on site.
